The Difference between Surrendering and Quitting
Are you in a situation that you feel stuck?
No traction
No movement
No progress
This “plateau” in your life can feel stressful and leaves you in a negative emotional space without any hope for improvement.
Sound familiar?
The #1 thing you can do is to SURRENDER.
Instead of beating yourself up about the lack of progression and traction despite your best efforts, SURRENDER TO THOSE FEELINGS. In essence you are ACCEPTING the situation or circumstance AS IT IS or IS NOT.
Whether it be a spousal argument, or workplace difference of opinion, rather than forcing change…
Let It Be.
(okay now this must sound familiar!)
When a situation becomes overwhelming, use this affirmation to surrender:
“I do not need to know exactly what to do to be successful”
When there’s surrender to the thought, it no longer dominates your thoughts and ultimately your future actions.
If you don’t surrender to that thought or emotion, it will dominate you.
When I wrote the first paragraph of my first self-help book, I started to get those defeating negative voices. “No one’s going to read this,” “what am I writing this for?” “someone has already said it better than me.”
Call it analysis-paralysis or writers-block, but I couldn’t write any more content. For years.
I was fortunate for a mentor and close friend to say to me “Edward, get back to it. YOU NEED TO WRITE THIS.” Ultimately, I surrendered to those negative, complainer thoughts and I said to myself
“that’s fine, i’m still going to write it”
“it’s going to be okay”
All of that unnecessary pressure that’s built up trying to making something work in your life will be released and let go.
It allows you to be in a space of peace and ease, bringing you back into affirmative ACTION.
YOU have the CHOICE to LET THE SITUATION JUST BE.
YOU WILL REALIZE THE OUTCOME OF WHAT IT IS THAT YOU’RE AFTER.
Now QUITTING is entirely different.
Did you know that most people quit hundreds of times before they actually accomplish something?
“This isn’t going to work”
“Why am I trying so hard”
These negative narrations basically mean
“I’m a quitter”
CUT IT OUT!
All men are created equal, but CHAMPIONS work EVEN HARDER in the pre-season.
In the pre-season of your life, are you taking the necessary action you need to take?
Are you doing what is necessary so you can show up as the best version of yourself?
NEVER expect massive outcomes in your favor with only 60% or 70% effort.
YOU HAVE TO GO ABOVE THE CALL OF DUTY.
It is up to YOU, only YOU to STEP UP
Take action for the RIGHT REASONS than for selfish reasons. Research has shown again and again that money is NOT the biggest motivator. Discover your motivation that inspires you to stick it out, so quitting isn’t an option, especially when the tough gets going.
